Tenby Publishers Memory Project
"O fy arglwydd dda, mae'r byd ond gair"
"O my good lord, the world is but a word"
Shakespeare, Timon of Athens
Tenby Publishers Memory Project investigates the event horizon of the interface between the written and spoken word. The strategy currently chosen being to memorise a text, typically a poem, to the extent that an audio recording is produced which is, hopefully, accurate to verbatim and flows in the sense that the narrator doesn't need to stop and think of what comes next. Once such an audio recording is made, which can be quite a daunting task, it is then published as a video on YouTube. Obviously, not to a professional standard but this is a research project rather than a commercial product.
Publishing it on YouTube provides a bench-mark indicating that the event horizon has been crossed. To use an analogy: we are then looking through the view-finder rather than at the photo. What is the point of the Tenby Publishers Memory Project? Unknown. Currently this project is in an evaluation phase and will either continue or peter-out. In line with the bilingualism policy of the Welsh Assembly some Welsh Language texts are included in the Tenby Publishers Memory Project. However, it should be pointed out that Welsh is not the first language of the Tenby Publishers participant so that pronunciation may be somewhat to be desired. The translation of Welsh texts is not necessarily literal but more with a view to emphasis meaning though, that too, could be questionable. Project notification is currently made via the Tenby Publishers Facebook page, X, Linked_In and BlueSky
